Effective immediately, hotels in Mexico will introduce an "Eco-Tax". As a result, every guest in a hotel room in Mexico is required to pay a local tourist tax in cash at the hotel.

A tourism tax came into effect on April 1, 2021, and is currently a one-time fee of 72.63 Mexican pesos or approximately 3.72 US dollars per room/per night.

Alternatively, the tax can also be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is recommended to carry the exact amount in Mexican pesos or US dollars. In Mexico, sinks or bathtubs/whirlpools may be integrated openly into the general living area of the hotel room without spatial separation.

Smoking ban

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations may be punishable by fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

For stays between April and December, there may be an increased occurrence of seaweed and algae due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, an increased appearance of brown algae in the Caribbean is often recorded. This can affect the beach and the sea. The hotel management and local authorities are, of course, endeavoring to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with municipal administrations. This requires the use of appropriate machinery, which may cause a slight noise level.
