From now on, hotels in Mexico will introduce an "Eco-Tax". This means that every user of a hotel room in Mexico is obliged to pay a fee to the state locally at the hotel in cash, similar to a visitor's tax.

As of April 1, 2021, a tourism tax has been in effect and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 72.63 Mexican pesos or approx. 3.72 US dollars per room/per night.

Alternatively, the tax can be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. In this case, it is advisable to carry the exact amount in Mexican pesos or US dollars. In Mexico, sinks or bathtubs/whirlpools may be open and integrated into the general living area of the hotel room without any spatial separation.

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

During stays between April and December, increased occurrences of seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, increased amounts of brown algae are often recorded in the Caribbean during this period. This affects the beach and the sea. Hotel management and local authorities are, of course, making efforts to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with the municipal administrations. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which may generate some noise.
