CUMBRE VIEJA AND TAJOGAITE VOLCANO (Friday)
Schauinsland-Reisen Original:
The eruption of the Tajogaite on the Cumbre Vieja was the most recent eruption in the history of La Palma. The young volcanic landscape exerts a special fascination and impressively conveys the immense power of nature.
Accompanied by a German-speaking guide, this guided volcano hike leads safely to the crater rim of the Tajogaite. The Cumbre Vieja is one of the most active volcanic zones in the Canary Islands and has been shaped by various eruptions of the San Juan in recent decades. The name "Tajogaite" comes from the language of the Benahoaritas, the indigenous people of La Palma, and was selected through a public vote. The eruption permanently changed the Aridane Valley and simultaneously created new land on the coast. Scientists are still researching the ground, volcanic gases, and the nature of the landscape today, while the island drives its reconstruction forward and reinvents itself.
Following the hike, the program includes a visit to a banana plantation that was rebuilt after the eruption. This highlights the great importance of banana cultivation for La Palma as well as the hope and resilience of the local population. A small snack and a drink round off the visit and provide an opportunity to learn more about the experience as well as the economic future of the island's population.
A special combination of impressive nature experiences, moving island history, and authentic insights into life after the volcanic eruption.

CUMBRE VIEJA – TO THE TAJOGAITE VOLCANO (Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday)
Note: Half-day tour
The hike to the Tajogaite Volcano on La Palma offers a rare opportunity to experience the newest volcano in the Canary Islands up close. The eruption of the Cumbre Vieja in 2021 profoundly changed the island and created a new landscape that is now safely accessible when accompanied by specially trained guides.
The newly created path leads to the crater and continues to Las Manchas. Along the way, an impressive view opens up of the massive lava flows that once shaped the Aridane Valley and buried more than 1,600 buildings.
The hike conveys not only intense nature experiences but also the history of the volcanoes of La Palma. In addition to Tajogaite, the San Juan in 1949 and the Teneguía in 1971 already shaped the face of the Cumbre Vieja. The view into the crater and the encounter with this young, still-smoking landscape make the tour an impressive testament to the power of nature and an unforgettable experience.
