Location

The lovingly restored Quinta is located in Estreito da Calheta, between the two picturesque villages of Calheta and Jardim do Mar, on the sunny southwest coast of the island of Madeira. The main house, Quinta das Vinhas (now the hotel area), dates back to the 17th century and is situated in a large vineyard with views of the sea and the surrounding hills and mountains. A characteristic feature of the Quinta is the ancient gate from 1685, which is no longer used as the main entrance today. The nearest beach is approx. 3 km away. Restaurants and bars are approx. 3 km away. Calheta is approx. 5 minutes, Jardim do Mar approx. 10 minutes, Funchal approx. 35 minutes, and the international airport of Madeira approx. 50 minutes away by car.

The main house, converted in 1997 and part of Agro Turismo (agricultural tourism), impresses with its rustic charm and features a total of 6 rooms. On the extensive grounds of the Quinta das Vinhas, there is also an annex belonging to the main house with 3 additional rooms as well as 15 bungalows/cottages. Facilities include a reception, lounge, fireplace room, outdoor area with garden, sun terrace, and swimming pool (freshwater). Sun loungers and parasols are available to hotel guests at the pool area free of charge.

Double room

Decorated in a country-house style, the double rooms are located in the main house, are approx. 15-20 m² in size, and feature a shower/WC, hairdryer, air conditioning, safe, double bed or 2 twin beds, and partly a terrace (D).
Also available to book as a double room for single use (DE).

Bungalow/Cottage (1 bedroom)

The bungalows/cottages (1 bedroom, approx. 42-47 m² in size) are spread around the swimming pool and are accessible via a small footpath leading through the vineyard (there is a separate entrance with a private parking space). Facilities include a bathroom with shower, hairdryer, kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, stove with ceramic hob, toaster, kettle, crockery and cutlery, air conditioning, safe, living room with sofa and open fireplace, a separate bedroom or a sleeping area on an open gallery with a double bed (2 m x 1.95 m) or two single beds (twin), heating, firewood, Wi-Fi (included), and terrace (B12).

Quinta das Vinhas is strongly committed to preserving the island's heritage while standing for a strong environmental policy:
• All hot water for the bungalows/cottages is solar-heated.
• All cleaning products are environmentally friendly.
• Natural materials were preferred during renovation and construction to provide more comfort.
• The new buildings were designed to require a minimal number of radiators and no air conditioning (thick walls and heavy roof insulation ensure a stable internal temperature).
• The vineyards managed by the Quinta are farmed biodynamically and sustainably. All gardens of the Quinta das Vinhas are maintained in a sustainable and biodynamic manner.

Seasonal information

Every year from August 13th to 15th, the religious festival of Santissimo Sacramento and Nossa Senhora da Graca takes place in Estreito da Calheta. It can be a little lively in front of the hotel until late into the evening.

Directions-Quinta das Vinhas, Bungalows/Cottages/Casinhas:
From the airport, please take the VIA RAPIDA (expressway) towards Funchal/Câmara de Lobos/Ribeira Brava. After approx. 30-35 minutes of driving from the airport, you will reach the end of the expressway. Now follow the signs for Ribeira Brava to the 2nd roundabout. At this roundabout, take the first exit into the tunnel to the right. After the tunnel, leave the following roundabout towards Ponta do Sol and drive onto the coastal road. Follow this road until you reach Lugar de Baixo and continue to Ponta do Sol. At the roundabout before the town, take the 2nd exit and drive into the tunnel towards Madalena do Mar. At the roundabout at the end of the tunnel, take the first exit onto the coastal road through the town of Madalena do Mar towards Calheta. You will reach another roundabout; take the 1st exit and drive into the tunnel again.
You will reach another roundabout. Here, take the 1st exit towards Calheta/Prazeres. You will drive through two more tunnels and reach another roundabout; take the 2nd exit into the tunnel towards Prazeres. After the second tunnel, you will reach a roundabout on the new road (please do NOT take the first turn-off that leads to the right from the expressway; please drive to the roundabout), which you should leave at the first exit (direction: Estreito da Calheta). Follow this road through 2 bends until you see a bus stop on the right; immediately after this, turn right (the first possibility to turn right since the roundabout!). On this road, go downhill through a right-hand bend and turn left at the first junction (you will see a small fountain on the right here) and drive into the narrow residential street (walls on the right and left). Here you will see the large entrance gate of the Quinta das Vinhas on the left, with a tile sign at the entrance.
We ask all guests to go to the reception of the main house upon arrival. It is located above the vineyards by the main house; you can reach the reception via a footpath that leads up behind the parking lot through the vineyard, or you can drive directly to the main house first.

Follow this road through several bends until you see a fenced vineyard on the right and the boundary wall of the Quinta das Vinhas (red). Opposite the new Centro de Saude (on the left) is the entrance to the Quinta (on the right). The driveway down to the Quinta runs through the vineyard. Parking spaces are located right in front of the entrance to the Quinta.
You will be expected at the Quinta/reception.
