Location

The lovingly restored Quinta is located in Estreito da Calheta, between the two picturesque villages of Calheta and Jardim do Mar, on the sunny southwest coast of the island of Madeira. The main house, Quinta das Vinhas (now the hotel area), dating back to the 17th century, is situated in a large vineyard overlooking the sea and the surrounding hills and mountains. The characteristic feature of the Quinta is the old gate from 1685, which is no longer used as the main entrance today. The nearest beach is approx. 3 km away. Restaurants and bars are approx. 3 km away. Calheta is approx. 5 minutes, Jardim do Mar approx. 10 minutes, Funchal approx. 35 minutes, and Madeira International Airport approx. 50 minutes away by car.

The main house, converted in 1997 and belonging to Agro Turismo (agricultural tourism), impresses with its rustic charm and has a total of 6 rooms. In addition, there is an outbuilding belonging to the main house with 3 further rooms and 15 bungalows/cottages on the extensive grounds of Quinta das Vinhas. Facilities include a reception, lounge, fireplace room, outdoor area with garden, sun terrace, and swimming pool (freshwater). Sun loungers and umbrellas are available to hotel guests free of charge in the pool area.

Double Room

Decorated in a country house style, the double rooms are located in the main house, are approx. 15-20 m² in size, and feature a shower/WC, hairdryer, air conditioning, safe, double bed or 2 twin beds, and a terrace in some rooms (D).

Bungalow/Cottage (1 Bedroom)

The bungalows/cottages (1 bedroom, approx. 42-47 m² in size) are distributed around the swimming pool and are accessible via a small footpath through the vineyard (there is a separate entrance with its own parking space). They are equipped with a bathroom with shower, hairdryer, kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, ceramic hob, toaster, kettle, crockery and cutlery, air conditioning, safe, living room with sofa and open fireplace, a separate bedroom or a sleeping area on an open gallery with a double bed (2 m x 1.95 m) or two single beds (twin), heating, firewood, Wi-Fi (included), and terrace (B12).

• All hot water for the bungalows/cottages is solar heated.
• All cleaning products are environmentally friendly.
• Natural materials were preferred during renovation and construction to provide more comfort.
• The new buildings are designed to require only a minimal number of radiators and no air conditioning (thick walls and heavy roof insulation ensure a stable indoor temperature).
• The vineyards operated by the Quinta are managed biodynamically and sustainably. All gardens at Quinta das Vinhas are maintained sustainably and biodynamically.

Seasonal information

Every year from August 13th to 15th, the religious festival of Santissimo Sacramento and Nossa Senhora da Graca takes place in Estreito da Calheta. It can get a bit lively in front of the hotel until late in the evening.

Driving directions - Quinta das Vinhas, Bungalows/Cottages/Casinhas:
From the airport, please take the VIA RAPIDA (expressway) towards Funchal/Câmara de Lobos/Ribeira Brava. After approx. 30-35 minutes drive from the airport, you will reach the end of the expressway. Follow the sign for Ribeira Brava until the 2nd roundabout. In this roundabout, take the first exit to the right into the tunnel. Leave the following roundabout after the tunnel towards Ponta do Sol and drive onto the coastal road. Follow this road until Lugar de Baixo and continue to Ponta do Sol. In the roundabout before the town, take the 2nd exit and drive into the tunnel towards Madalena do Mar. In the roundabout at the end of the tunnel, take the first exit onto the coastal road through the town of Madalena do Mar towards Calheta. You will reach another roundabout, leave it at the 1st exit and re-enter the tunnel.
You will come to another roundabout. Here, take the 1st exit towards Calheta/Prazeres. You will pass through two more tunnels and reach another roundabout, leave it at the 2nd exit into the tunnel towards Prazeres. After the second tunnel, you will reach a roundabout on the new road (please DO NOT take the first turn-off leading off the expressway to the right, drive to the roundabout), leave it at the first exit (Direction: Estreito da Calheta). Follow this road through 2 curves until you see a bus stop on your right. Immediately behind it, turn right (first possibility on the right since the roundabout!), go downhill on this road through a right curve and immediately turn left at the first turn-off (here you will see a small fountain on the right) and drive into the narrow residential street (walls on the right and left). Immediately on the left, you will see the large entrance gate of Quinta das Vinhas, with a tiled sign at the entrance.
All arrivals, please proceed to the reception of the main house. It is located above the vineyards by the main house; you can reach reception via a footpath leading up behind the parking lot through the vineyard, or you can drive to the main house first.

Parking spaces are located directly in front of the house entrance of the Quinta.
You will be expected at the Quinta/Reception.
