Location

The hotel was built in a stunning, quiet location on a rocky plateau above a small natural bay. The well-known "Garajau" underwater nature reserve begins right in front of the building. Caniço de Baixo is located on the route between the airport and the capital, Funchal, which can be reached by car in approx. 15 minutes (approx. 12 km away). Several bus connections operate daily. The main town of Caniço can be reached on foot in approx. 20 minutes (approx. 2.5 km away). The golf courses of Madeira are 9 and 15 km away respectively.

The small complex has a total of 52 rooms spread over 2 buildings. Hotel facilities include a central reception at the neighboring Royal Orchid hotel, elevator (3rd-5th floor), Wi-Fi (included in the hotel lobby, bars, restaurants, and rooms), à la carte restaurant, bar, and an outdoor freshwater swimming pool (sun loungers and 1 pool towel per person/stay included). There is direct access to the sea (via stairs) at the Rocamar hotel, and guests can also use the outdoor pool, indoor pool, and sauna at the Royal Orchid.

Studios

Tastefully furnished studios with bath or shower/WC, kitchenette (with microwave, kettle, toaster, and 2 hot plates), rental safe (for a fee), air conditioning, telephone, satellite TV, Wi-Fi (included), and balcony or terrace. The rooms have a view of houses (S12). Can be booked as a studio for single use (S11). Studio with sea view (SM2) can be booked for an extra charge, as well as studio with sea view for single use (SM1). Also available as a Type O studio with limited allocation at a special price (SOM) for summer 2026.

The slightly larger junior suites have the same amenities as the studios with a living/bedroom area and can accommodate up to 3 people (J2M).

Breakfast (7:30 am - 10:30 am), lunch (12:30 pm - 3 pm), and dinner (6 pm - 9:30 pm) buffet-style/menu (depending on occupancy). Soft drinks, various juices, mineral water, coffee, tea, beer, sparkling wine, and white, red, and rosé wine are offered with meals. Snack selection such as mini-sandwiches, cake, cookies, ice cream, various juices, coffee, and tea from 11 am - 12 pm and 3 pm - 6 pm. Directions from Funchal Airport (FNC):
From the airport, take the highway towards Funchal. After approx. 10 minutes of driving, take the "Caniço de Baixo" exit on the right. Then turn left towards Caniço de Baixo. Follow the road until you find the hotel signs. Turn right here and then left again until, after approx. 100 meters, you see a sign for the hotels Cais da Oliveira and Roca Mar; turn right there. You will arrive directly at the parking lot of the Royal Orchid hotel.
