Location

Located just 20 m from the Calheta Marina, this modern hotel blends perfectly into the landscape between the mountains and the sea. A special feature of the hotel is its walking distance to the golden sandy beach of Calheta (approx. 500 m away). The town center is about a 10-minute walk away. Funchal Airport is approximately 50 km away.

The luxurious 5-star hotel, which evokes the golden age of sugar cane production with its name and decor, is very modern and furnished with natural materials. It features a total of 242 rooms and suites, a large lobby with reception, conference rooms, an indoor pool (on the 8th floor), a private breakfast lounge & terrace "The Club" (for guests in SPE double rooms with sea view and SPE pool suites with sea view), 4 bars, a buffet restaurant ('Engenho'), and two à-la-carte restaurants ('Alambique' and 'Trapiche'). Outside, there is a spectacular infinity pool (sun loungers and parasols available for a fee) with a breathtaking view of the sea, as well as a separate children's pool. A second pool is available on the 2nd floor (adults only, loungers included). There is also a sugar cane museum (gallery) within the hotel.

Double room with side sea view

The double rooms with side sea view (approx. 32 m²) are spacious and modernly furnished, featuring a bathroom with shower/WC, air conditioning, telephone, TV, minibar (for a fee), safe (free of charge), bathrobe, slippers, tea/coffee maker, and a balcony with a side sea view (DMS). Also available as double room side sea view type A (AMS/XES) and for single occupancy (DES) (different prices and availability, no difference in facilities). Double rooms with sea view (DM) and double rooms with sea view type A (DMA) are available for an extra charge (different prices and availability, no difference in facilities). Also available as double rooms with sea view for single occupancy (DEM, AME).

Double room sea view type I

The double rooms sea view type I have the same facilities as the double rooms sea view, but are only bookable with breakfast (DMI). Also available for single occupancy in winter 26/27 (EMI).
Also bookable as double room side sea view with breakfast (DIS).

Double room atrium

The double rooms atrium are generously sized (approx. 32 m²) with shower/WC, air conditioning, TV, minibar (for a fee), safe (included), balcony, and atrium view (DAT). Also available as double room atrium for single occupancy (DET). Double rooms atrium type I have the same facilities as the double rooms atrium, but are only bookable with breakfast (DTI). Also available for single occupancy (EID). Bookable for winter 26/27 and summer 27.

SPE double room sea view

The SPE double rooms sea view (2PM) are equipped as the double rooms sea view, are located on higher floors, and include the Savoy Premium Experience service (further information under the Seasonal Information section).

SPE pool suite sea view

The SPE pool suite sea view (approx. 80 m²) has the same facilities as the double rooms but is more spacious and features 2 balconies (one of which has a small pool), a hydromassage bathtub, and a shower. In addition, the Savoy Premium Experience service is included (further information under the Seasonal Information section) (PS2).
Rooms with direct pool/sea access present an increased safety risk for small children.
Therefore, for safety reasons, schauinsland-reisen requires a minimum age of 6 years for children when booking these room types.

Suite

The suites have the same facilities as the double rooms, are significantly larger (40 m²), and feature a living room with kitchenette, a separate bedroom (separated by a curtain or door), and a balcony with an atrium view (S2). Side sea view (MS2) or direct sea view (S2M) available for an extra charge.

HB/FB

Breakfast buffet (Restaurant Engenho).
For Full Board (FB), lunch is served at the "Trapiche" restaurant by the pool (à-la-carte). Or at the "Calhau Beach Club" (summer only).
Dinner in buffet form (Restaurant Engenho) or à-la-carte restaurant "Alambique" (seasonal).
Changes to restaurants and procedures are possible. Advance booking required; seats are limited.
