Hotels in Mexico will now introduce an "Eco-Tax". Every hotel room user in Mexico is obliged to pay a local tax to the state at the hotel in cash, similar to a tourist tax.

A tourism tax came into force on April 1, 2021, and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 224 Mexican Pesos or approximately 11 US Dollars per person, regardless of the planned duration of stay in the country.

Alternatively, the tax can also be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is recommended to have the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars with you.

No Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

During stays between April and December, an increased presence of seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, brown algae are frequently observed in the Caribbean during this period, affecting the beach and sea. The hotel management and local authorities are of course endeavoring to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with the municipal administrations. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which may generate some noise.
