Location

The Quinta da Penha de França hotel, one of Madeira's most traditional establishments, is nestled within a tropical garden with direct access to the sea via its sister hotel, Quinta da Penha de França Mar (accessible via a footbridge and elevator). Guests can use the facilities of the Quinta Penha de França Mar hotel. The center of Funchal, with its numerous shops, bars, and restaurants, is approximately a 10-minute walk away. The airport is about 20 km away.

The hotel, surrounded by tropical gardens, offers a total of 75 rooms. Further facilities include a reception (24-hour service), elevator, bar, and a restaurant. The outdoor area features a sun terrace and 2 swimming pools (one of which is at Quinta da Penha de França Mar). Sun loungers, umbrellas, and beach towels are provided free of charge.

With the same amenities as the Double Rooms with Garden View, these rooms are also located in the main building and have a balcony with a partial sea view (D2S).

Star Tour Excursion Program (subject to change/Daily arrival possible):
Eira do Serrado/Monte (Monday/Thursday): Discover Madeira's most beautiful panoramas on this half-day tour. From the Pico dos Barcelos vantage point, you'll overlook the bay of Funchal and continue to Eira do Serrado, from where you can look down into the crater of an extinct volcano. At the very bottom lies the village of Curral das Freiras (Nun's Valley). Continue to Monte, where you will visit the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte. On the way back, you have the opportunity to ride the traditional wicker sledges. (Not included in the price)
Porto Moniz (Wednesday/Friday): Departure towards Câmara de Lobos (fishing village where the famous Espada – black scabbardfish – is caught). Continue over Cabo Girão (Europe's highest sea cliff at 580m), then the route leads along the coast to Ribeira Brava. From Ponta de Sol, ascend to the Pául da Serra plateau (1400m). Finally, descend to Porto Moniz to the natural lava pools. The lunch break will be taken here. The return journey will be along the north coast, passing through Seixal to São Vicente. From there, ascend over the Encumeada pass (1007m), from where you can see both the north and south coasts simultaneously. Afterwards, return to Funchal.
Santana (Tuesday/Saturday): Departure into the mountains via Poiso towards Pico do Arieiro (1810m). Descend to Ribeiro Frio. Here you are in the middle of Madeira's Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue to Santana, known for its thatched-roof houses. The lunch break will be taken here. Afterwards, proceed to Pico do Facho. Then return to Funchal.
Levada and Botanical Garden (Monday/Wednesday): The 4th and final excursion leads us, after an approximately 1.5-hour Levada walk (difficulty: easy), to the Botanical Garden, famous for its around 3,000 different plant species (entrance fee and guided tour included).
