Location

The Hotel Quinta da Penha de França, one of the most traditional houses on Madeira, is situated in the midst of a tropical garden with direct access to the sea via the sister hotel, Quinta da Penha de França Mar (accessible via a pedestrian bridge and an elevator). Guests can use the facilities of the Quinta Penha de França Mar hotel. The center of Funchal with numerous shops, bars, and restaurants is approximately a 10-minute walk away. Airport approximately 20 km away.

Surrounded by tropical gardens, the hotel has a total of 75 rooms. Further facilities include a reception (24-hour service), elevator, bar, and a restaurant. The outdoor area features a sun terrace and 2 swimming pools (one of which is located at the Quinta da Penha de França Mar). Sun loungers, parasols, and bath towels are provided free of charge.

With the same amenities as the Double Rooms Garden View, these rooms are also located in the main building and feature a balcony with a partial sea view (D2S).

Round trip excursion program (subject to change/daily arrival possible):
Eira do Serrado/Monte (Monday/Thursday): Discover the most beautiful panoramas of Madeira on this half-day tour. From the height of Pico dos Barcelos, you overlook the bay of Funchal and continue to Eira do Serrado, from where you can look down to the bottom of an extinct volcano. At the very bottom lies the village of Curral das Freiras (Nuns' Valley). Continue to Monte, where you visit the church of Nossa Senhora do Monte. On the way back, you have the opportunity to ride the traditional wicker sledges. (Not included in the price)
Porto Moniz (Wednesday/Friday): Departure towards Câmara de Lobos (fishing village where the famous scabbard fish – black scabbardfish – is caught). Continue over Cabo Girão (at 580m the highest sea cliff in Europe), and then the route takes us along the coast to Ribeira Brava. From Ponta de Sol, we head upwards to the plateau of Pául da Serra (1400m). Finally, we descend to Porto Moniz to the natural sea swimming pools. The lunch break is taken here. The return trip is via the north coast and leads through Seixal to São Vicente. From there, it goes upwards over the Encumeada pass (1007m), where you can see both the north and south coasts at the same time. Afterward, return to Funchal.
Santana (Tuesday/Saturday): Departure into the mountains via Poiso towards Pico do Arieiro (1810m). The route then descends to Ribeiro Frio. Here you are in the middle of Madeira's laurel forest (Laurisilva), which has been declared a World Heritage Site. The journey continues to Santana, known for its thatched-roof houses. The lunch break is taken here. Afterward, we go to Pico do Facho. Afterward, return to Funchal.
Levada and Botanical Garden (Monday/Wednesday): The 4th and final excursion takes us, after an approx. 1.5-hour Levada hike (Difficulty: easy), into the Botanical Garden, which is famous for its approximately 3,000 different plant species (entrance fee and tour included).
