Location

The Quinta da Penha de França hotel, one of Madeira's most traditional establishments, is located amidst a tropical garden with direct access to the sea via its sister hotel Quinta da Penha de França Mar (accessible via a footbridge and elevator). The facilities of the Quinta Penha de França Mar hotel can also be used. The center of Funchal with numerous shops, bars, and restaurants is about a 10-minute walk away. The airport is approximately 20 km away.

The hotel, surrounded by tropical gardens, has a total of 75 rooms. Further facilities include a reception (24-hour service), elevator, bar, and a restaurant. In the outdoor area, there is a sun terrace, 2 swimming pools (one of them at Quinta da Penha de França Mar). Sunbeds, umbrellas, and bath towels are provided free of charge.

With the same amenities as the Double Rooms with Garden View, these rooms are also located in the main building and feature a balcony with a partial sea view (D2S).

Star Tour Excursion Program (subject to change/Daily arrival possible):
Eira do Serrado/Monte (Monday/Thursday): Discover Madeira's most beautiful panoramas on this half-day tour. From the Pico dos Barcelos vantage point, you overlook the bay of Funchal and then proceed to Eira do Serrado, from where you can look down into the crater of an extinct volcano. At the very bottom lies the village of Curral das Freiras (Nun's Valley). Continue to Monte, where you will visit the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte. On the way back, you have the opportunity to ride the traditional wicker sleds. (Not included in the price)
Porto Moniz (Wednesday/Friday): Departure towards Câmara de Lobos (fishing village where the famous Espada – black scabbardfish – is caught). Continue via Cabo Girão (Europe's highest sea cliff at 580m), and then the route leads along the coast to Ribeira Brava. From Ponta de Sol, ascend to the Pául da Serra plateau (1400m). Finally, descend to Porto Moniz to the natural sea pools. Lunch break will be taken here. The return journey will be via the north coast, passing through Seixal to São Vicente. From there, ascend via the Encumeada Pass (1007m), where you can see both the north and south coasts simultaneously. Return to Funchal afterwards.
Santana (Tuesday/Saturday): Departure into the mountains via Poiso towards Pico do Arieiro (1810m). Descend to Ribeiro Frio. Here you are in the heart of Madeira's Laurisilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue to Santana, known for its thatched houses. Lunch break will be taken here. Afterwards, proceed to Pico do Facho. Return to Funchal thereafter.
Levada and Botanical Garden (Monday/Wednesday): The 4th and final excursion leads us to the Botanical Garden, famous for its approximately 3,000 different plant species (entrance fee and guided tour included), after an approximately 1.5-hour levada hike (difficulty level: easy).
