Location

The Hotel Gungau is an ideal starting point for an active hiking and cycling holiday in the Austrian mountains, perfect for a summer vacation. The hotel is located directly at the Zwölferkogel valley station, and around the hotel, you'll find 400 km of hiking trails as well as 400 km of well-described bike routes and trails. In winter, approximately 408 kilometers of pistes attract ski fans to the area. As a contrast to an active day, the popular resort of Saalbach-Hinterglemm offers additional shops and cafes inviting you to stroll and linger.

Facilities

The Hotel Gungau impresses with its familial and cozy atmosphere, welcoming guests into a total of 35 traditionally furnished rooms with wooden designs. After an eventful day in the Salzburg mountains or at the end of the Hinterglemm valley, guests can find peace and relaxation in the hotel's own wellness area. A culinary delight with regional specialties is provided by an à la carte restaurant – open only in winter – with continuous hot cuisine. For a pleasant end to an eventful day, gathering at the in-house bar is recommended. Families with children will especially enjoy the offerings of a playground and a children's playroom.

Double Room

The cozy and bright double rooms are equipped with a double bed, a seating area, a bathroom with shower/WC, as well as a telephone, flat-screen TV, safe (free of charge), Wi-Fi, and a balcony (approx. 23m², D). Optionally bookable as DZ Type A for 2 adults and 1-2 children with a double bed and bunk bed (DA) or as DZ Type B for 2 adults and 1-3 children with a double bed, bunk bed, and sofa bed (DB).

Single Room

The comfortable rooms with wooden elements are slightly smaller and have a French bed, but no seating area. The rest of the amenities are similar to the double rooms (approx. 16m², E).

Family Room

2-Room Family Room
These spacious rooms offer space for the whole family and feature a living/sleeping area with a double sofa bed and a separate bedroom with a double bed and connecting door. There is also a seating area and direct access to the balcony from both rooms (approx. 38m², DF2).

Double Room Comfort from Summer 2026

The Double Rooms Comfort (DKO, approx. 23 m²) are equipped with a shower/WC, telephone, cable TV, safe, double bed, seating area, and balcony.

Double Room Deluxe from Summer 2026

With otherwise similar amenities to the Double Rooms Comfort, these are approx. 2 m² larger and, in addition to the double bed, offer a bunk bed (DD2).

Double Room Superior from Summer 2026

Also similar to the Comfort rooms, these are approx. 31 m² in size and feature a double bed, bunk bed, and sofa bed (DSU).

Junior Suite from Summer 2026

The cozy Junior Suites are also similarly equipped to the Comfort rooms, but are approx. 38 m² in size and feature a living/sleeping area with a double sofa bed and a separate bedroom with a double bed (JS2).

Note

NEW from Summer 2025: For all guests staying in Salzburg State from May 1, 2025, there will be a new levy, the "Mobility Levy." The fee will be collected parallel to the local tax per overnight stay and will go towards the expansion of transportation.
