Location

The "Matemwe Attitude" is a 4-star hotel located in Matemwe on the north coast of Zanzibar. The seemingly endless beach and the hotel's quiet location in an unspoiled part of the island invite you to relax and unwind. The small island of Mnemba, one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots, is located opposite the hotel. The distance to Zanzibar International Airport is 50 km, approximately a 1-hour drive.

The unique adults-only hotel "Matemwe Attitude" celebrated its reopening in November 2025. 74 villas are spread across 80,000 m² amidst almost untouched tropical nature. Guests can enjoy local dishes at 2 different main restaurants (buffet restaurant with international and local specialties, beach restaurant with pizza and Tanzanian street food) and 2 bars. Both restaurants are included in the Dine-Around option (from half board). Sun loungers and umbrellas are available free of charge for all guests at the 2 pools and both beaches. The Local Shop offers drinks, snacks, etc. without unnecessary packaging to reduce single-use plastics, as well as locally produced souvenirs. At the Marine Discovery Centre, interested visitors can learn about the ocean habitat and the conservation projects of the Attitude Foundation. The hotel's own organic garden, which supplies the kitchen, is open for visitors to explore. Additionally, a local cooking class with the chef and a coffee/tea tasting are offered. The arrival and departure lounge with showers and changing facilities is available to guests free of charge for early arrivals or late departures. While Wi-Fi is available in all areas of the hotel, there are intentionally no TVs in the rooms. Simply switch off, take a deep breath, and return to the essentials. The hotel is the ideal place to rediscover relaxation.

Swim-up Villa (2SU)

The 24 Swim-Up Villas (approx. 74 m²) are located in the upper area of the complex. Four villas each share a common pool with direct access from the terrace. Each villa features a terrace with seating and sun loungers, an outdoor shower surrounded by nature, air conditioning, a fan, and a separate toilet. A safe, hairdryer, mini-fridge, and coffee and tea making facilities are also provided in the villas. Coffee, tea, and snacks can be replenished at the shop to avoid waste.

Deluxe Villa (2DV)

The 22 Deluxe Villas (approx. 78 m²) offer a great deal of privacy. They have the same basic amenities as the Swim-up Villas, including a private garden with a pool, and instead of an outdoor shower, they feature a double walk-in shower in the bathroom which opens onto the garden.

Deluxe Villa partial Seaview (VM2)

This spacious villa, like the Deluxe Villa, features a private pool and garden, offering the same tranquility and privacy. However, it includes a window in the garden wall, through which you can enjoy a glimpse of the sea beyond the lush vegetation.

Seafront Villa (2VV)

The 12 two-story Seafront Villas, approximately 101 m² in size, are located directly on the sea. The ground floor houses the bedroom with an adjoining bathroom with an outdoor shower and the terrace. The upper floor features a lounge with a large balcony and a plunge pool. From here, guests enjoy an unparalleled panoramic view of the sea.

Honeymoon Special Swim-Up Villa (HS2)

You will receive a discounted room rate upon presentation of a marriage certificate. Upon check-in, a marriage certificate/civil partnership document no older than 12 months must be presented. If no certificate is provided upon arrival, the supplement must be paid by the guest. Additionally, honeymooners receive a signature tea created in collaboration with the excellent B Corp-certified Tanzanian tea manufacturer "Kazi Yetu", a handmade notebook with a Kitenge fabric cover from the inspiring NGO Neema Crafts, and a candlelight dinner (without drinks).
