Location

The "Matemwe Attitude" is a 4-star hotel located in Matemwe on the north coast of Zanzibar. The seemingly endless beach and the hotel's quiet location in an untouched part of the island invite you to relax. Opposite the hotel is the small island of Mnemba, one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots. The distance to Zanzibar International Airport is 50 km and takes approximately 1 hour by car.

The luxurious Adults-Only Hotel "Matemwe Attitude" will reopen in November 2025. 74 villas are spread across 80,000 m² amidst the hotel's green spaces. Guests will be treated to local dishes in 2 different restaurants and 3 bars (main buffet restaurant with local specialties, beach restaurant with table d'hôte and barbecue, cocktail bars and small gourmet snacks). Free Wi-Fi is available in all villas and public areas, although it is recommended to use it as little as possible to fully enjoy your stay. For this reason, TVs are also not provided in the rooms. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available free of charge at the main pool. In the bulk shop (daily from 7 am to 10 pm), you can get drinks, snacks, etc. without unnecessary packaging to reduce single-use plastics, and in the craft shop, you can purchase locally made gifts (shops open from 7 am to 10 pm). At the Marine Discovery Centre, interested visitors can learn about and support marine conservation. The hotel's organic garden, which supplies the kitchen, is open for visitors to explore. Additionally, a local cooking class with the chef and a coffee/tea tasting are offered. Guests can relax comfortably in the so-called "transit cabins" upon early arrival or late departure.

Swim-up Villa (2SU)

The 24 Swim-Up Villas (approx. 74 m²) are located just 5 minutes from the beach, featuring direct access from the terrace to the shared infinity pool and an outdoor shower surrounded by nature. Each villa has a terrace with seating and sun loungers, air conditioning, a fan, and a separate toilet. A safe, hairdryer, minibar, and coffee/tea making facilities are also available in the villas. Coffee, tea, and snacks can be replenished at the shop to avoid waste.

Deluxe Villa (2DV)

The 22 Deluxe Villas (approx. 78 m²) are nestled amidst tropical nature and feature the same amenities as the Swim-up Villa, but with the addition of a private pool and garden, and a double walk-in shower. They are also located just 5 minutes from the beach.

Seafront Villa (2VV)

The 12 two-story villas, approximately 101 m² in size, also feature all the amenities of the other villas. Additionally, they offer panoramic views from the second floor and are only a 1-minute walk from the beach.

Honeymoon Special Swim-Up Villa (HS2)

You will receive a discounted room rate upon presentation of a marriage certificate. A marriage certificate/civil partnership document, not older than 12 months, must be presented at check-in. The offer also applies to couples getting married at the hotel. If no certificate is presented upon arrival, the extra charge must be borne by the guest. Additionally, honeymooners will receive a signature tea created in collaboration with the great Tanzanian B Corp Kazi Yetu, a handmade notebook with a Kitenge fabric cover from the inspiring NGO Neema Crafts, and a candlelight dinner (excluding drinks).

Deluxe Villa partial Seaview (VM2)

The same tranquility, comfort, and privacy as the Deluxe Villa – but with a hint of sea view shimmering through the trees. This spacious villa features a private pool and garden, a double walk-in shower leading to a shaded terrace, and a bedroom with a desk and a cozy reading or siesta corner. Bonus: A beautiful distant view of the sea.
